According to the International Nickel Study Group 60% of nickel demand is satisfied by new nickel; nickel that has been used for the first time. 40% of nickel demand is supplied by recycled nickel.
Out of the 60% of nickel demand satisfied by new nickel, 65% of new Nickel is used to in the creation of the alloy stainless steel. Stainless steel is used heavily in construction and infrastructure throughout the world. It is also used in kitchenware, appliances, and medical equipment.
20% of nickel is also often used to make the alloy Nickel Silver, a combination of copper, nickel, and zinc. It is used in cutlery, key making, and musical instruments.
Nickel is also a metal commonly used in global coinage, the manufacture of batteries, and computer hardware.
